Nationwide Earth Day Celebrations Mobilize Communities to Emphasize Sustainable Living and Environmental Advocacy

Corazón Latino: “We Are All In For Mother Earth”

WASHINGTON, DC — Corazón Latino, a leading advocate for environmental awareness, conservation, and sustainable living, is proud to announce its lineup of Earth Day events spanning from the Sonoran Desert in Arizona to the East Coast, with key celebrations also planned in Washington, DC, Nevada, and Virginia.

The organization's events will feature a range of interactive experiences (including Danzaton Latino dance sessions!), educational exhibits, citizen science activities, and collaborative efforts with partners such as the USDA and the USDA Forest Service.

Felipe Benitez, executive director of Corazón Latino stated, “On this Earth Day, our collective efforts across multiple cities nationwide are evolving and harmonizing to honor our Madre Tierra, demonstrating the power we yield to drive sustainable transformation. Climate change has posed diverse challenges across our regions, yet we stand united in taking action, highlighting the role everyone plays in promoting sustainability on Earth Day.”

Highlights of Corazon Latino's Earth Day 2024 events include:

  • Tucson, Arizona: Earth Day at Children's Museum: Families and children will enjoy a day filled with environmental education, hands-on activities, and interactive exhibits aimed at fostering a love for nature and sustainable practices. This event is scheduled for April 20th from 11am- 1pm. 

  • Washington, DC Extravaganza with the USDA: The nation's capital will come alive with Earth Day festivities, including scavenger hunts, live music, dance performances, fitness activities, fun-filled exhibits, and opportunities for community engagement. This event is scheduled for April 22 from 11am-3pm. 

  • Arlington, Virginia: Earth Day Celebration/City Nature Challenge at Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, VA: Corazón Latino, Teatro del Corazón, Capital Nature, and Descubre El Bosque invite you to an Earth Day celebration at the iconic Iwo Jima Memorial (US Marine Corps War Memorial). This unique event, scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2024, will blend the beauty of music with the engaging hands-on experience of citizen science to honor our planet.

  • Las Vegas, Nevada Greening: Centennial Hills Park clean up and tree planting organized by Make the Road Nevada. This community event is scheduled for Friday April 26th from 10am - 2pm. 

 

Corazón Latino continues to inform and engage our core audiences about the importance of protecting and appreciating Madre Tierra as part of our ongoing efforts to promote equitable access to nature and support the principles of Justice 40. Additional programs include: 

Descubre El Bosque, a Spanish-language initiative backed by the USDA Forest Service, bridges conversations about access to public lands, nature-based connections, and conservation opportunities. Through culturally resonant content disseminated via diverse social media platforms.

Coming soon: Arizona Urban and Community Forestry program rollout designed to support local organizations in engaging frontline communities in urban forestry through an urban forestry campaign, toolkits, and technical support. Our focus includes promoting tree planting, expanding urban canopy programs, and creating resilient green spaces, specifically targeting frontline communities and disadvantaged areas in cities such as Phoenix, Tucson, and Mesa.
