Corazón Latino Applauds the Introduction of the Language-Inclusive Support and Transparency for Online Services (LISTOS) Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Felipe Benítez, Executive Director & Founder of Corazón Latino, released the following statement today in response to the introduction of the Language-Inclusive Support and Transparency for Online Services (LISTOS) Act by Senator Ben Ray Luján and other supportive senators:

"Corazón Latino heartily applauds the introduction of the LISTOS Act, an essential step forward in establishing a more inclusive and equitable digital environment. We are an organization deeply committed to engaging and empowering diverse communities in their stewardship of our planet. It is critical to us that every individual, regardless of their language proficiency, has equal access to accurate and clear information online.

The LISTOS Act is a critical initiative in a time when digital communication is increasingly essential. It promotes equal access to information and shields our diverse communities from the harmful effects of disinformation and misinformation, especially crucial for members of the public with limited English proficiency, who are often more susceptible to deceptive practices online due to language barriers.

Through our work at Corazón Latino, we have directly witnessed the damaging consequences of misinformation within communities where English proficiency is limited. Misinformation cultivates distrust, stokes divisions, and hampers collective efforts to tackle shared challenges such as climate change and public health.

The LISTOS Act aligns perfectly with our mission of inclusion and diversity. We stand in full support of this legislation and thank Senator Luján, along with all the other supportive senators, for their leadership in advocating for a more inclusive and equitable digital world. We eagerly look forward to collaborating with them and our allies to ensure this bill's passage.

We also urge Congress to continue this crucial conversation and to incorporate the voices of the communities we serve into their decision-making process. Their experiences, insights, and contributions are invaluable to creating informed and effective policies."
