Corazón Latino Urges Swift Confirmation of Gov. Martin O'Malley to lead the Social Security Administration

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In reaction to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance's confirmation hearing for Gov. Martin O'Malley, nominee for Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA), Felipe Benítez, Executive Director and Founder of Corazón Latino, issued the following statement:

"Corazón Latino has long admired Governor O'Malley's dedication to public service and his innovative approach to governance. His visionary leadership, as seen during his tenure as Governor of Maryland and Mayor of Baltimore, consistently prioritized the needs of the most vulnerable communities. His commitment to harnessing technology for the greater good is not just commendable but necessary in these rapidly evolving times.”

“Governor O'Malley's record speaks volumes about his ability to adapt, innovate, and lead with empathy. His hands-on experience and academic insights into public administration make him exceptionally qualified to steer the SSA towards a future where efficiency, equity, and accessibility are not just goals but realities.”

“As the SSA confronts unprecedented challenges, including an aging population and the need for digital transformation, Governor O'Malley's expertise in performance management and customer service technologies is exactly what the agency requires to meet the present  moment. His leadership promises a revitalization of the SSA, ensuring that social security services are delivered effectively and equitably to all Americans, especially to those who have been historically underserved.”

“We urge the Senate Committee on Finance to recognize the urgency of this moment and the unparalleled suitability of Governor O'Malley for this role. It is imperative for the well-being of our communities and the integrity of our social security system that Governor O'Malley's nomination is confirmed swiftly.”
