Corazón Latino Celebrates EPA's Inaugural National Environmental Youth Advisory Council

Washington, D.C. – Nov. 17, 2023 – Felipe Benitez, Executive Director and Founder of Corazón Latino, lauds the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its groundbreaking move in establishing the National Environmental Youth Advisory Council (NEYAC). This visionary initiative is a significant stride towards integrating the voices of young leaders in shaping the environmental future.

"EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan's announcement marks a pivotal moment in our collective environmental journey," said Felipe Benitez. "By empowering young leaders through NEYAC, the EPA is not only recognizing the critical role of youth in environmental advocacy but also ensuring their insights and perspectives are front and center in policy discussions. This aligns perfectly with Corazón Latino's mission of nurturing holistic environmental stewardship that encompasses the well-being of all communities."

Corazón Latino, known for its commitment to environmental equity and its 'One Health' approach, sees the NEYAC as a natural ally in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation. The organization commends the EPA's inclusive selection of council members, representing a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds, which is essential for addressing the multifaceted challenges of environmental justice.

"The appointment of these passionate young environmentalists to NEYAC is a testament to their dedication and leadership in the environmental justice space" added Benitez. "Their involvement is crucial in addressing the urgent environmental issues we face, particularly in frontline communities disproportionately affected by climate change."

Corazón Latino looks forward to the innovative contributions and fresh perspectives that the NEYAC will bring to the table. The organization remains committed to supporting and amplifying the efforts of these young leaders as they embark on this crucial endeavor.

"We are thrilled to witness the positive impact NEYAC will have under the leadership of Administrator Regan and the Biden-Harris Administration," concluded Benitez. "Their commitment to a healthier and more sustainable future for all aligns with our vision, and we stand ready to collaborate and support their vital work."
