About Forest Bathing

The term Forest Bathing comes from the Japanese, shinrin-yoku, shinrin meaning ‘forest’, and yoku meaning ‘bath’. So shinrin-yoku means bathing in the forest atmosphere or taking in the forest through our senses. Forest bathing is a practice that takes participants outdoors and primes their senses to observe, commune, and reconnect with nature. Forest Bathing is a way to mindfully saunter into nature. It is not a hike to solely get to an endpoint, nor to track the distance on a device, but to relish every single step and moment as a gift. It’s not a naturalist walk to identify the flora and fauna, but rather to bear witness with child-like curiosity and wonder. It is not mindful meditation nor a religious practice, yet the elements of being mindful and spirituality are present.
